day 4

Well… if this experience was meant for me dispel any stereotypes of Indians it has thus far failed miserably.

We came back this morning to find our luggage tampered with. Allie's luggage lock was still attached, but the zipper had been ripped open and her clothes rummaged through. Fortunately nothing was stolen. When Ariana went to get into her luggage, she found her key didn't work. A key that wasn't hers was broken off into the lock as if someone had tried to use a different key but failed. Again, nothing had been stolen and my bag had not been tampered with. (they knew better ;) However, we decided that it was probably best if we told the manager anyways. Well she told one person, that person told another man, and pretty soon six men were standing in our hostel room yelling in HIndi. One man in particular was heated at Ariana for "blaming him". We didn't want to accuse anyone straight away. After all nothing had been taken that we knew of and another girl had been staying with us in the hostel.

The men left and nothing else was done. We only felt uncomfortable for getting half the staff involved in a heated debate of finger pointing and blind accusations.

That was until we realized the latch on our cabinet had been torn off as well.

The lock we placed on the cabinet door was not broken or anything, just the latch, and part of the wood cabinet had been punched through as if someone was using a flathead screwdriver to remove the latch and bent the wood in the process. Well low and behold Allie's i pod is gone. If it had been the other cabinet it would have been Ariana's video camera, her laptop, my camera, and my i pod. Fortunately for us they picked what was behind door number one, but it is still a big bummer for Allie.

However…. if this be a warning to the house keepers who work here…. Don't mess with American's shit!

As we speak Ariana is on the phone with the US embassy.

This WILL get resolved.
