It has been raining every day for the past two weeks. Why do I suddenly feel like I am back in Washington?
Rained at orphanage last night. Rained when we got to the pool today.
Rain, rain, rain.. GO AWAY!
To make matters worse, Ariana has been having horrible luck today. Not only did she wake up with a Godzilla spider bite on her butt cheek, she had the pleasure of stepping on a dead rat, her least favorite animal in the entire world. Allie watched in horror as Ariana's poor foot, protected by only a thin flimsy flip flop stepped square on the yellow, fly-infested rat.
I am told its brains squished out of its eyeballs.
Within seconds of realizing what she had done, Ariana was on the ground in the middle of the busy Indian street squirting her entire bottle of hand sanitizer on the affected area. Yea… it's been one of those days….
On the bright side, we did see the Hathipole elephant today while a river of Indian sludge water was raining down upon us.
This time I had my camera.
Seriously, seeing an elephant walk right down the middle of a street will never get old to me. I raced in front of her to take a picture and snapped a few shots before Shelby, Ariana, and Allie pulled up next to me in a rickshaw blasting Hips Don't Lie by Shakira.
Sometimes, even when its raining, even when your toes are covered in dead rat brians.. India finds a way to make up for it.
I jumped in the rickshaw next to our pleasant driver, Samir, singing along with him to The Columbian Queen as the rain fell down harder and the street river got higher.
Then the song ended……
and began again?
And once again, we were singing along to "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira.
The next song on the playlist: a slightly different version of "Hips Don't Lie by Shakira"
Then, you guessed it: ANOTHER slightly different version of "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira.
We listened to how Shakira's hips don't lie at least seven different ways between Hathipole and home.
Do you think our good friend Samir has a slight obsession?
"Oh the attraction, redemption. Can't you see babe. Si, es perfection!"
...To follow up the cat party (That went amazing by the way!), tonight is our "Anything but Clothes Party".
Seriously, we have the best party themes here.
The idea of the party is pretty self explanatory. The rule is you can wear anything except clothes. (But you have to be wearing SOMETHING.)
I made myself a cute dress out of newspaper clippings from my care package and the US Flag. Shelby, Ariana, and Allie went all out with dresses made of baby diapers. Surprizingly the outfits we threw together in twenty minutes with nothing but masking tape looked incredibly high fashion.
… Not to mention, very absorbent.
